Aifos Costa del Sol | ITB

Today, part of the Tourist Board’s technical staff are travelling to Berlin to attend ITB, one of the three major events on the calendar of the travel industry (the other two are London’s WTM and Madrid’s FITUR). This year, ITB Berlin will be held from 7 to 11 March.

The event is almost simultaneous with the publication of the data on the German market, presented by Tourist Board President Juan Fraile, Acting Manager Antonio Díaz, and SOPDE Manager Rafael Fuentes. Germany is the second most important international market to the Costa del Sol, the first being the UK. Our delegation at ITB will be led by Mr Fraile.

At the presentation of the data on the German market, it was made clear that Germany is still very important to the Costa del Sol, so in 2007 it is necessary to boost promotion and actions oriented towards attracting tourists.

As in previous editions of ITB, the Tourist Board’s space will be part of Turismo Andaluz’s stand. Around one hundred members (companies and institutions) will be present in it. Our staff will meet local tour operators with the aim of gauging the German market.

The travel and tourism report on Germany revealed that, in 2006, 8% more German travellers (307,859) stayed in Málaga’s hotels than they did in 2005. Hotel stays totalled 1,510,295, i.e. 5.4% more than the previous year. Also last year, 574,070 German tourists arrived at Málaga Airport, making 8.81% of all the visitors who came to the province by plane.
